Good news for central employees! DA may increase to 63% from July

New Delhi: Positive signals are being received regarding dearness allowance for central government employees and pensioners. After the release of Industrial Workers Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) of May 2026 by the Labor Bureau of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the possibility of increasing dearness allowance by 3 percent from July 2026 seems to be strong. If this estimate proves correct, the current 60 percent DA may increase to 63 percent.

Why did the chances of getting 63 percent DA increase?

Dearness Allowance is calculated on the basis of six month average data of AICPI-IW. According to the data available so far, an increase of about 3 percent in DA is being estimated from July 2026. However, experts say that the final calculation will be completed only after the release of the index of June 2026. If there is no major decline in the June figures, the chances of 63 per cent DA may become stronger.

When will the government make the official announcement?

The central government usually announces the dearness allowance to be implemented from January in March or April, while the DA to be implemented from July gets the approval of the Union Cabinet in September or October. In such a situation, if DA is increased from July 2026, then employees and pensioners will get the benefit of the increased rate from the effective date. They will be paid the outstanding amount even if the official announcement is made later.

About one crore people will get benefits

About one crore beneficiaries, including lakhs of central government employees and pensioners, can benefit from the possible increase in dearness allowance. The increase in DA will also increase the monthly salary of employees and the income of pensioners, which is expected to provide some relief from the rising impact of inflation.

final decision still pending

At present the available economic data is indicating in favor of increase in DA, but this cannot be considered as a final decision. The new rate will be officially announced only after the release of CPI-IW data for June 2026 and the approval of the Central Government.
