New Delhi: On Thursday at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem, Tamil Nadu player Andre Siddarth achieved his maiden first-class century, helping his team score an impressive 301 in their Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh. Andre, a promising young player who recently played for India in the U19 Asia Cup, is the nephew of former Tamil Nadu cricketer Sridharan Sharath.

Andre, recently signed by the Chennai Super Kings during the November mega auction, showcased his skills in red-ball cricket on a day when India’s Test players struggled in the Ranji Trophy. Chandigarh’s captain, Manan Vohra, chose to bowl first, allowing Tamil Nadu’s openers, Mohamed Ali and Narayan Jagadeesan, to build a solid 101-run partnership. However, after Ali was dismissed LBW by Nishunk Birla, Tamil Nadu’s innings faltered, leaving them at 126/4 by the 37th over.

In the 67th over, Vishu Kashyap dismissed Baba Indrajith after he and Andre had built a partnership of 121 runs for the fifth wicket. Following this, Andre and Boopathi Kumar added 40 runs for the sixth wicket before Jagjit Singh took Andre’s wicket in the 80th over. Kashyap ended up with five wickets as Tamil Nadu was all out for a total of 301 runs. Andre made a notable contribution, scoring 106 runs, which included three sixes and ten fours.

Andre has not only secured an IPL contract with CSK during the auction last December, but he has also progressed to the Ranji Trophy after debuting in the Tamil Nadu Premier League in July. He has achieved four half-centuries in his initial six innings and has represented the India U-19 team.

Andre rang in 2025 when he and Tamil Nadu defeated Gujarat, the hosts, in Ahmedabad to win the U19 Cooch Behar Trophy. His uncle Sharath, who is currently the national selector, was a member of the team when Tamil Nadu last won the championship in 1991–1992.
