Good news for dairy farmers, milk purchase price increased in three states
New Delhi. A relief news has emerged for the dairy farmers of the country. To support the farmers who are struggling with rising costs and declining profits, many states have decided to increase the purchase prices of milk. This step taken in Odisha, Kerala and Punjab is expected to improve the income of lakhs of farmers and will also strengthen the dairy sector.
Increase of Rs 1 per liter in Odisha
OMFED, the state cooperative milk union in Odisha, has increased the purchase price of milk by Rs 1 per liter. Now farmers will get Rs 39.05 per liter, whereas earlier this rate was Rs 38.05. This new rate has come into effect from May 1, 2026. This decision will directly benefit about 3 lakh dairy farmers.
Prices will increase by Rs 4 per liter in Kerala
In Kerala, Milma has decided to increase the price of milk by Rs 4 per liter. The new rates may come into effect around the third week of May. In the first proposal, there was talk of an increase of Rs 4 to Rs 6 per litre. With this, farmers are expected to get better income.
Increase of Rs 20 per kg fat in Punjab
Milkfed in Punjab has increased the purchase price of milk by Rs 20 per kg fat. This decision has also come into effect from May 1. About 2.5 lakh farmers will get direct benefit from this, while lakhs of farmers can benefit indirectly.
Why did farmers get this relief?
The costs for dairy farmers were increasing due to continuous increase in animal feed, medicines and other expenses. In such a situation, this decision has been taken to increase their income and strengthen the dairy sector.
