Good news for EPFO members: New online change facility started
An important news has come for more than 7 crore subscribers of Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Now EPFO subscribers can make changes in personal information like name and date of birth online without any employer verification or EPFO approval. Additionally, members with e-KYC EPF accounts (linked to Aadhaar) can directly file their EPF transfer claims online through Aadhaar OTP (One Time Password) without employer intervention.
Union Minister started new services
Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated both these new services on Saturday. He informed that about 27 per cent of the complaints filed by EPFO members are related to member profile/KYC issues. Due to this new facility, there is a possibility of a significant reduction in these complaints. He also said that requests for amendment in personal details of employees will also benefit large employers.
Process simplified
The Labor Minister said that EPFO has simplified the process of joint declaration on its portal. With this, employees will be able to self-correct errors in information such as their name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father/mother's name, marital status, spouse's name and date of joining and leaving the workplace. There will be no need for the employer for this nor will any approval be required by the EPFO.
Who will get the facilities?
This facility will be available to those members whose UAN number was issued after October 1, 2017. Even if the UAN is issued before October 1, 2017, the employer can correct the details without EPFO's approval. However, the requirement of supporting documentation in such cases has also been simplified. Only in cases where UAN has not been linked to Aadhaar, physical submission has to be made to the employer for correction.
change in pattern
Of the eight lakh requests sent by employers to EPFO in the financial year 2024-25, only 40 percent of the requests were sent within five days, while 47 percent of the requests were sent after 10 days. The average time was 28 days. With this new simplification, in 45 per cent of cases employees will be able to make instant corrections in personal information through Aadhaar OTP verification, while in the remaining 50 per cent cases the correction will be done through the employer.
This new feature is a big change for EPFO members, which will provide them the facility to update their personal details more simply and quickly.
