Karnal:- The National Wheat and Barley Research Institute, Karnal, which made the record of wheat production in the country last year, has set a target of 115 million tonnes of wheat production for the upcoming Rabi season. Scientists hope that they will achieve this goal with the help of new varieties. Distribution of seeds of new varieties of wheat to farmers will be started in the institute from Sunday i.e. 20 October 2024.
New wheat seeds will be given to the farmers: On this occasion, the director of the institute, Dr. Ratan Tiwari said that last year the institute had produced a record of 113.29 million tonnes of wheat. Increasing this, a target of production of 115 million tonnes has been set this time. He said that to make the seeds of new varieties of the institute available to the farmers across the country, wheat seeds are being given from Sunday.

New variety of wheat ready: He said that 22 thousand farmers from across the country had registered themselves on the portal to get seeds of new varieties. Farmer-scientific dialogue was also organized at the National Wheat and Barley Research Institute. In which agricultural scientists told the farmers about the new technology. 17 thousand farmers are expected to come from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

13 new types of patients: Dr. Tiwari said that the institute had sent the proposal of 19 new species to the Central Government. Out of which the Center has approved 13. Which is likely to be released soon. Barley variety dwrv 137 is also included in the approved varieties of wheat. Apart from being peel-free, it will also provide chaff for animal fodder.

Early varieties can be sown till November 5: The director told the farmers that “Farmers can sow early varieties of wheat from October 25 to November 5. The central government has increased the MSP of farmers. Along with this, farmers can also set up a wheat processing plant to increase their income. They will benefit greatly from this. Soon farmers will be given training in preparing wheat products in the institute.

Know what is special about the new varieties of wheat: Nodal Officer Dr. Amit Sharma said that while giving information about the new varieties, he said that there is a lot of demand for dbw 327 and dbw 371 among the farmers. Apart from being disease resistant, this species is capable of giving better production. He said that the varieties have been prepared according to the geographical location of different states of the country.
