After getting the approval of the Cabinet, now agricultural loans (farming loans) up to Rs 2 lakh of eligible farmers of the state will be completely waived off.

The government believes that this big step will significantly reduce the financial burden on the families involved in farming. Along with this, farmers will also get a lot of help in investing for their next new crop.

Lakhs of farmers will get direct benefits

Let us tell you that many farmer organizations of the state were demanding relief from debt for a long time. Now after the implementation of this scheme, lakhs of farmers of Maharashtra are expected to get direct benefits. The government can very soon release all the detailed information and guidelines related to the eligibility and application process of this scheme.

According to the information revealed, about 56 lakh farmers are likely to get direct benefits under this government scheme. For this, the government has given its approval to a huge loan waiver of about Rs 36,585 crore. The benefit of this scheme will be given to all those farmers who fulfill the eligibility conditions set by the government. It is believed that more than 65 lakh loan accounts across the state can come under the purview of this entire scheme.

Know why the formal announcement has been stopped

However, even though the government has approved this scheme in the cabinet, no major formal announcement has been made at present. The main reason for this is believed to be the Legislative Council elections to be held in the state, due to which the code of conduct is in force at present. As soon as this entire election process is over, the government can make an official and detailed announcement in this regard.

Big relief to farmers burdened with debt

This historic decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This decision is being considered very important keeping in mind the preparations for the upcoming monsoon and Kharif season. The government thinks that when the farmers burdened with debt will get the support of this relief, they will be able to prepare in a better way for the coming crop cycle. Apart from this, they will not face any problem in getting new loans from banks.

This plan was one of the most prominent election promises of the Mahayuti alliance before the 2024 assembly elections. Even during the election campaign, the issue of loan waiver of farmers and strengthening of agriculture sector was raised prominently. Now after getting the green signal from the cabinet, it is being considered as a very big and important step towards fulfilling the election promise.

Those who repay the loan on time will also get huge reward

This time the Maharashtra government has not limited itself to loan waiver only, but has also taken care of those who repay the loans honestly. The Cabinet has also taken a big decision to encourage those farmers who have been paying their agricultural loans regularly without any delay. A proposal to give incentive amount of up to Rs 50,000 to such disciplined farmers has been approved by the government. This will also directly benefit the farmers who repay their loans on time and will promote financial discipline among the people.
