Good times continue for Sarfaraz Khan as new member joins family

Just days after scoring his maiden Test century against New Zealand in Bengaluru, Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan announced on Instagram that he has become father to a baby boy. Sarfaraz shared pictures of him with the infant and then a picture of him and his father with the baby.

Sarfaraz got married to his wife Romana Zahoor in August last year. His wife and father were there when Sarfaraz made his much-awaited Test debut for India earlier this year against England in Rajkot. He scored a half-century in each of the 3 Tests and ended the series with 200 runs, with an average of exactly 50.00.

Sarfaraz was then however, benched for 2-match Test series against Bangladesh. He was expected to stay on the bench for the New Zealand series as well, but an injury to batter Shubman Gill led to him getting a slot in India’s middle order for the first Test against the Black Caps.

The 27-year-old was one of 5 Indian batters who were out on ducks as the hosts stunningly collapsed for just 46 runs. In reply, powered by Rachin Ravindra’s century, New Zealand posted a massive total of 402. It looked as if India would lose the match by an innings, however Sarfaraz’s brilliant ton saw them post a mammoth total of their own.

Sarfaraz would go be dismissed after playing a sensational knock of 150 runs. This knock included 18 boundaries along with 3 sixes and also a marvelous 177-run stand with Rishabh Pant which would carry the Men in Blue to the total of 462. However, in the end, they were only able to set a target of 107 for the Kiwis, which they easily achieved.

Regardless of the defeat, Sarfaraz’s tremendous performance saw him make headlines and maybe even confirm his place as a regular started in the Indian Test team.
