Google Maps horror! Three UP youths die as car falls into river following GPS: Details
In a tragic turn of events, three men, including two brothers, lost their lives after their car plunged off an under-construction bridge into the Ramganga River in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The accident occurred when the victims were navigating their route using Google Mapsunaware that the bridge they were directed to was incomplete.
The victims were traveling from Dataganj in Badaun towards Faridpur.Their vehicle, following GPS directions, unknowingly veered onto the unlit, partially constructed bridge and fell 50 feet into the riverbed, per reports. The bridge had been damaged by heavy rains last year and was still undergoing repairs, with safety barriers either missing or inadequate.
The damaged car was discovered by locals from Allapur village on Sunday morning. Upon closer inspection, they found the submerged car with its occupants trapped inside. Police were immediately alerted, and rescue operations were carried out, but all three were declared dead on the spot.
The families of the deceased have expressed anger over the lack of proper barricades and signage at the site. The absence of visible warnings, combined with reliance on Google Maps, created a lethal combination that led to the accident.
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for accountability. Locals and family members are questioning the Public Works Department (PWD) and local authorities for failing to close off access to the incomplete structure.
Besides that, this tragedy highlights need for infrastructure safety measures and user caution when relying on navigation apps. While technology plays a significant role in modern travel, incidents like this serve as a grim reminder of its potential limitations when paired with inadequate on-ground safety protocols.
