Google will give a new look to the Pixel laptop with the new high-end Pixelbook
Delhi Delhi. Google stopped making Pixel laptops after the Pixelbook Go – a smaller version of the Pixelbook – was introduced in 2019. Although the move was surprising, Google's efforts to take on Apple in the laptop category did not pan out. Although Google focused more on revamping its tablet lineup to compete with iPads in the following years, there was always a MacBook-shaped hole in the market, especially with the success of ChromeOS. Google has now rekindled its plans to launch a MacBook rival.
Google has approved plans to create a high-end, premium laptop with Pixel branding, Android Headlines reports. Although the name of the laptop is unclear, it may arrive as the Pixelbook 2 – the successor to the original Pixelbook. The report says that Google has appointed a team for dedicated development of the laptop under a project called 'Snowy'. The upcoming Pixel laptop could compete with Apple's MacBook Pro and Microsoft's Surface Laptop. However, that's the extent of the information in the report as it doesn't reveal what hardware the next Pixel laptop might come with.
However, Google's alternative to the Pixelbook 2's software could be interesting. The report adds that the company may be using the popular Chrome OS, but it is “not 100 percent confirmed yet.” So, there's a possibility that the next Pixel laptop could run Android, which is in line with Google's plan to integrate ChromeOS and Android. The company has doubled down on its commitment to standardizing Android across its product categories, so Android-powered laptops are a possibility. However, it could be a heavily modified version of Google's mobile platform.
Android-powered laptops could allow Google to offer better synchronization and connectivity with Android phones, tablets and other devices. However, it will need to pack many additional features to be on par with macOS and Windows – the world's leading computer operating systems. We'll know more about Google's next laptop in the coming weeks.
