Gorakhpur: Huge fire in Ghantaghar Market, clothes shop burnt to ashes, three fire engines took charge

gorakhpur. A massive fire broke out in a clothes shop in the busy Ghantaghar market of Raiganj in Rajghat police station area of the city on Tuesday night, creating chaos in the entire area. The fire spread so fast that within some time its flames reached the house built above the shop. During this time, the family members present inside the house got scared and started screaming. As soon as the information was received, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and relief and rescue operations were started immediately.
According to the information received, a wholesale clothing shop named ‘Nishtha Traders’ operates in Raiganj area, where Chunari, Gamchha and handloom clothes are kept in large quantities. The shop owner has built a shop and warehouse on the ground floor, while he resides with his family on the first and second floors. On Tuesday evening, at around 7:40 pm, suddenly smoke was seen rising from inside the shop and within no time the fire took a huge form.
Seeing the flames and thick smoke rising, there was panic among the nearby shopkeepers and local people. Many people came out of their shops and homes. Local people immediately informed the police and fire brigade. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and controlled the crowd and appealed to the people to stay at a safe distance.
Three fire tenders were sent to the spot from fire station Golghar. The fire brigade personnel immediately took charge and started the work of extinguishing the fire and conducted a rescue operation to safely bring out the people present in the house above. After much effort the family members were taken out safely.
During the incident, people living in nearby houses and shops also got scared and came out of their homes and gathered on the road. The situation became tense for some time due to smoke spreading in the entire area. Local people also helped the fire brigade and tried to save the nearby shops.
The cause of the fire could not be clarified in the preliminary investigation, although it is suspected that the fire may have started due to a short circuit. There is a possibility of huge damage to the clothes and other goods kept in the shop due to fire. At present, efforts are underway to completely control the fire by the fire brigade personnel and the administration has started investigating the cause of the incident.
