Government bans delivery for 10 minutes, a big decision for the safety of gig workers
digital desk- Keeping in mind the safety of gig workers, the Central Government has taken a big decision to remove the 10-minute delivery deadline on the country’s major online delivery companies. This step has been taken by the Labor Ministry at a time when many delivery partners were becoming victims of road accidents due to rapid delivery. Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a meeting with officials of Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato on this issue. He gave clear instructions to all companies to remove the 10-minute delivery timeline from their branding and social media promotions. All the companies agreed to this and assured the government that they would soon update their messages and advertisements.
Blinkit changed its tagline after the decision
After this decision, Blinkit first changed its branding. The company has changed its tagline from “10,000+ products delivered in 10 minutes” to “30,000+ products delivered at your doorstep”. In the coming days, other platforms like Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato will also make similar changes. This step of the government has been taken mainly for the safety of gig workers, better working conditions and to reduce stress at the workplace. This issue was given special attention after the gig workers strike on 25th December and 31st December. During the strike, several rounds of talks took place between the companies and the government and ultimately it was decided that the lives of employees should not be put at risk in the race to provide faster service to customers.
Gig workers will be free from the pressure of 10 minute delivery
Under this new rule, delivery partners will no longer be under pressure to deliver goods within 10 minutes. Experts believe that this will reduce the number of accidents due to speeding on the road and gig workers will remain mentally and physically safe. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said after the meeting that the government is serious about the rights and safety of gig workers. He urged companies to ensure employee safety while maintaining customer experience and delivery quality on their platforms.
