‘Government doctors are running parallel medical industry in Prayagraj’- Allahabad High Court
Bureau Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court has directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a high-level investigation of the doctors of Motilal Nehru (MLN) Medical College, Prayagraj, who are doing private practice. It has also been said that Chief Secretary Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) should monitor the cardiology building which has been under construction for the last 20 years despite the availability of funds in the hospital.
The court remarked that the condition of Swarooprani Nehru Hospital is bad not because of lack of funds and facilities but because professors, associate professors and lecturers are treating patients in private hospitals instead of the hospital. These government doctors are running a parallel medical industry in Prayagraj. They take patients to private nursing homes and perform surgeries.
Fixing the next hearing of the petition as May 26, the court has sought information from the Chief Secretary about the action taken. Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal has given this order while hearing the petition of Dr. Arvind Gupta of Motilal Nehru Medical College. The Consumer Forum had taken action against them for negligence in private practice, which has been challenged in the petition.
The court has asked the Additional Chief Permanent Advocate to inform about the Cabinet’s approval regarding transfer of land in favor of the hospital. Additional Chief Standing Advocate Suresh Singh told the court that no objection has been received from all departments to transfer 31,314 square meters of land for Swarooprani Nehru Hospital.
Principal Dr. Vinod Kumar Pandey told about Boys and Girls Hostel that the building is dilapidated. Notice to vacate has been given. The building will be demolished and rebuilt. The court expressed surprise that the construction of the two-storey cardiology building was started by the Government Construction Corporation in 2006. The government has provided funds. The project still could not be completed. It was told that it will be ready and operational by August 26.
The court was told that an FIR has been registered against Associate Professor Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh and his wife Dr. Elakshi Shukla, who do private practice. Who is the director of Acula Hospital. Where Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh takes patients and performs surgery. Which the court has taken seriously.
