Natural Gas Supply: Important decision of Modi government, emergency control removed from natural gas supply in the country.
Emergency Natural Gas Supply: The Central Government has completely lifted the emergency control imposed on the supply of natural gas across the country. This very big and important decision has been taken after the tension subsided at the global level. At the beginning of this year, there was a complete fear of huge shortage of gas and interruption in supply at the international level. Therefore, the Government of India had implemented this strict rule to save the people of the country and essential services from a huge crisis.
Let us tell you that on February 28 this year, a very terrible war started between America, Israel and Iran. Due to this major conflict, the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) through the important Strait of Hormuz was affected. Many international suppliers had drastically reduced their supplies to India citing force majeure clause. Due to this, there was a strong possibility of a very bad impact on the availability of gas in India, which was handled by the government.
regulation of gas supply
Steps were taken to ensure equitable distribution and continuous availability of natural gas for all priority critical sectors. In view of the acute shortage of gas, the Central Government had issued the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order 2026 on 9 March 2026. Under this, the supply of natural gas, LNG and re-gasified LNG (RLNG) produced and imported in the country was completely controlled. The main objective of this rule was to provide gas in very adequate quantity to power, fertilizer and all other priority sectors.
Energy crisis and diplomacy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the tough efforts of New India have proved to be very difficult on this biggest energy crisis of the 21st century. Modi clearly said that during this serious crisis, the Indian government took absolutely correct and very accurate decisions at every level. Before this whole crisis started, India was importing its fuel and gas from only 25-26 countries. But during the crisis, India’s excellent diplomacy proved to be very effective and now India is procuring fuel from more than 40 countries.

Dependence on LPG imports
According to PM Modi, about 60 percent of our essential and basic needs of LPG was imported in large quantities from other countries. Out of this, 90 percent of LPG was coming only from Gulf countries and the dangerous situation of war had almost stopped it. After this, as soon as the crisis started, India laid great emphasis on increasing the strength and capacity of the country’s own refinery. Due to these wonderful and big efforts of the government, there has never been any major shortage of gas and fuel in the country.
