Government made provision of Rs.2006 crore to make Gujarat a ‘sports hub’
Gandhinagar, 10 March 2026: : Provision of Rs. 2006 crore to make Gujarat a ‘sports hub’ Participating in the discussion on the budget demands of the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Minister Jitu Vaghani underlined the all-round development of the youth of the state and the growing influence of Gujarat in the sports sector. The Minister had said that with the resolve to make Gujarat a ‘Sports Hub’, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel’s ‘double engine’ government for the Sports Department will spend Rs. 100 crore this year for sports, youth and cultural activities. A provision of Rs. 2006 crore has been made, which is several times more than the previous years.
Minister Vaghani had said that in this budget only Rs. A provision of Rs 1,331 crore has been made. Many ambitious projects have been planned to take Gujarat forward in the field of sports on the global stage. ‘SVP Sports Enclave’ spread over 335 acres around Narendra Modi Stadium will be the centerpiece of this mission. An Olympic standard aquatic center with a capacity of 12,000, a tennis center with a capacity of 24,000 and a state-of-the-art indoor arena with a seating capacity of 18,000 will be built in this enclave.
Giving details of other important sports projects of the state, the Minister said that a new athletics stadium with a capacity of 50,000 and a modern shooting range is being constructed in an area of 143 acres in the Gujarat Police Academy at Karai. For the convenience of the players, a modern ‘Olympic Games Village’ that can accommodate 17,500 players will be built on 135 acres at Bhat in Ahmedabad.
The Minister has stressed that this is not just the construction of buildings, but all this infrastructure will be developed into ‘high-performance training centers’ after future major sporting events. These facilities will be made open to the youth of Gujarat, so that they can perform their best at the international level.
Giving information about sports infrastructure in the state, the Minister had said that Rs. 165 crore and for Olympic class facilities at Karai Rs. A provision of Rs 100 crore has been made. To give more impetus to the hockey game in Gujarat, an important decision has also been taken to build a world class hockey stadium at a cost of Rs 90 crore.
