Government makes major amendments in PM e-Drive scheme, sets new deadline and limit for e-scooter and e-rickshaw

New Delhi: The government has amended PM e-Drive, a scheme to promote electric vehicles, to set new deadlines and maximum number of vehicles for e-scooters and e-rickshaws. The Central Government has revised the PM e-Drive (PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement) guidelines worth Rs 10,900 crore.

According to this, electric two-wheelers registered by July 31, 2026 and electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaws and e-carts) registered by March 31, 2028 will be eligible to get incentives under the scheme. The maximum ‘showroom’ price to avail the incentive is limited to Rs 1.5 lakh for electric two-wheelers and Rs 2.5 lakh for electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaws and e-karts). PM e-Drive Scheme is a limited fund scheme. The total payment under this scheme will be limited to the scheme outlay of Rs 10,900 crore.

“If the funds for the scheme or its respective sub-components are exhausted before the closing date of the scheme, i.e. March 31, 2028, the scheme or its respective sub-components will be closed accordingly, i.e. no further claims will be accepted,” the Ministry of Heavy Industries said in a notification.

The last date for registered electric two-wheelers will be July 31, 2026, and the last date for registered electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaws and e-karts) will be March 31, 2028, the notification said. Under the scheme, only 24,79,120 vehicles and 39,034 vehicles for e-rickshaw and e-cart will be given incentive.
