Government recruitment rules cannot be changed midway: Supreme Court
Decisions: New Delhi. The Supreme Court, in an important decision on Thursday, said that the rules set for appointment to government jobs cannot be changed during the recruitment process, unless it is specified in advance. Chief Justice D.Y. A five-judge bench led by Chandrachud made it clear that there should not be any change in the rules laid down before the start of the recruitment process, so as to ensure transparency and non-discrimination.
The bench also included Justice Hrishikesh Roy, Justice PS Narasimha, Justice Pankaj Mithal, and Justice Manoj Mishra. The Court said that the selection rules should be in accordance with Article 14 of the Constitution and the public recruitment process should be characterized by transparency and fairness, so that there is no discrimination of any kind against the candidates.
