Government’s report card on law and order in Punjab, achievements of four years, account of four years in front

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann presented the report card of his government on law and order under the ‘Shaandaar Char Saal’ campaign. The objective of this initiative is to present to the public the work and reforms done in the last four years in a transparent manner. The Chief Minister claimed that there has been a clear improvement in the law and order situation at the ground level in the state.

Strict campaign against drugs

The government’s ‘war against drugs’ policy was said to be the main basis of this report. According to the Chief Minister, since March 2022 till now, more than 95,000 drug smugglers have been arrested and more than 71,000 FIRs have been registered. Along with this, illegal assets worth Rs 772 crore were seized and thousands of kilos of narcotics were recovered. The government called it the result of ‘zero tolerance’ policy.

Attack on gangsters and organized crime

The action against organized crime was also presented as a major achievement of the government. After the formation of Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), more than 2800 criminals were arrested and more than 1100 gangs were busted. It was also claimed to have solved many high-profile cases, which has strengthened the fear of the law.

Use of technology in border security

Considering Punjab’s border with Pakistan, stopping smuggling through drones has been a big challenge. The Chief Minister said that anti-drone system has been installed in the state, from which more than 800 drones have been recovered so far. This step is considered important towards technically strengthening the security of the state.

Police Reforms and Modernization

The government has done large-scale recruitment and modernization to strengthen the police force. More than 12,000 policemen have been recruited in the last four years. Apart from this, new vehicles and resources have been made available at a cost of more than Rs 300 crore, which has increased the efficiency of the police.

Improvement in road safety and public services

The Road Safety Force, started in January 2024, has also given positive results. According to the government, this initiative has reduced the death rate in road accidents by 48 percent and thousands of people have been provided timely help.

Relationship between investment and security

The Chief Minister said that the increasing investment in the state is an indication that law and order has strengthened in Punjab. The arrival of big industries and hosting of international events reflects the better image of the state. Through this four-year report card, the government has tried to convey the message that law and order in Punjab has been strengthened through strict policies, technical reforms and continuous action. However, amidst the allegations of the opposition, this report can also become the center of political debate in the future.
