Government warns iPhone, iPad, Mac users of risky security issues

Delhi. Delhi. According to the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), iPhones have security flaws that could potentially allow an attacker to access sensitive information and bypass restrictions. The government's online threat monitoring agency has issued an advisory, underlining that several Apple products have multiple vulnerabilities of “high” severity and their owners should update their devices immediately. The advisory comes just as Apple's new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models go on sale in India.

The affected devices include iPhones running iOS versions prior to iOS 18 and iOS 17.7. Although the iPhone 16 has been left out, previous models such as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro may have the vulnerabilities listed in the advisory by CERT-In, which also mentions that other Apple products such as iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch may also be affected. Essentially, devices running previous software versions that do not yet have security patches are affected.

“Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple products that could allow an attacker to access sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, cause a denial of service (DoS) condition, bypass authentication, gain elevated privileges, and perform spoofing attacks on the targeted system,” the CERT-In advisory said.
