Government will ensure employment of outsourced employees in Punjab

An important meeting of the Punjab Cabinet was held on Saturday (30 May). In this, it has been decided to confirm the outsourced employees. 65048 employees will be confirmed in 51 departments of the state. First, the employees will be brought on contract with the government through an ordinance. To give the shape of law to the ordinance, the government will bring two bills in the Assembly in the coming session.

The cabinet meeting has given approval to regularize more than 65,000 outsourced and temporary employees and end the contractual system forever. Now there will be no middlemen or contractors, rather every employee will be directly employed by the government and their salary will come directly into their bank accounts.

Punjab State Outsourced Personnel Bill 2026 and Punjab Contractual Personnel Bill 2026 will be introduced in the Assembly. Even during the SAD-BJP government in 2016 and the Congress government in 2021, bills were passed in the Assembly to confirm these employees but they could not be implemented.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “The difference this time is that these employees will first be taken on contract with the government and then they will be confirmed after completion of their 10-year tenure. This decision has been taken to stop exploitation of outsourced employees.”

Along with this, an important decision has been taken to regularize workers engaged in hazardous work like firefighters, sewer workers and linemen after only 3 years of service instead of 5 years of service. A special cabinet sub-committee has also been constituted to resolve the issues of dues and dearness allowance of employees and pensioners. Apart from this, approval has also been given to establish 7 new special courts in Punjab for speedy disposal of corruption cases.
