Government is working on a plan to promote yacht tourism, personal yachting: Sonowal – Obnews

Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the government is working on a plan to promote yacht tourism and personal yachting ecosystem in India.

Yacht is a large boat that has all the amenities. They are usually used for racing and tourism.

India has a coastline of 7,500 km and there is not a single marina of international standards. A marina is a dock used to park sailboats and yachts.

Sonowal said, “Along with cruise tourism, we are going to add a new dimension by developing an environment for yacht tourism in India.”

The minister said India is such a big country but 'we do not have any place (international standard marina) where yachts can be parked.'

Sonowal said that a small country like Croatia has space to park 15,000 yachts.

The minister said yacht tourism would create employment opportunities in India as each yacht provides employment to 20 people.

Western countries, particularly Croatia and Italy, have taken advantage of their extensive coastlines by building marina projects.
