Note: The government has not only blocked these apps, but also social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, X) have also been instructed to be closed so that they cannot promote through any other medium.

Reason for action: Why did the blame fall on them?

According to officials, this action has not happened suddenly. There were many concrete reasons and warnings behind this:

Vulgar Content: Such web series and films were being shown on these platforms, in which sexual acts and nudity were shown for a long time without any story.

Ignoring warnings: The ministry had issued warnings to these platforms in September 2024 and February 2025, but instead of improving, they continued serving the same content by creating new domains.

Violation of IT rules: These apps were not following ‘IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021’.

Under which law was the action taken?
