Government’s strictness against online gambling, 300 more websites blocked
Taking a tough stance against online betting and gambling, the government has blocked 300 more illegal websites and apps. Sports betting, online casinos, slots, roulette, live dealer games and P2P betting platforms were targeted in this action.
According to sources, Satta-Matka networks and real money card game apps are also included in this list. So far, a total of more than 8,400 such sites have been blocked, out of which 4,900 were closed after the implementation of the Online Gaming Act.
The ‘Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025’, passed by Parliament on August 21, 2025, is effective from October 1. This law provides for 3 years of imprisonment and heavy fine on real money games like poker, rummy and fantasy sports.
Formation of Online Gaming Authority will regulate the sector, encourage safe e-sports. Its purpose is to prevent addiction, financial loss and social problems.
The World Health Organization has considered gaming disorder as a disease. In India, families are being ruined and suicides are taking place due to the addiction of youth. The government is stopping harmful games with a balanced policy and promoting useful gaming.
