Change in the post of Chief Minister and Governor in Bihar

Patna: In Bihar, there has been a change in the faces of the Chief Minister and the Governor in a single day. On Thursday morning, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for Rajya Sabha and on the same night the President appointed the new Governor of Bihar. After Nitish Kumar went to Parliament, the chances of Bihar getting a new Chief Minister have increased, while Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed as the new Governor of Bihar in place of the current Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. It is believed that while this new Governor will accept the resignation of Nitish Kumar, he will also take oath of the new government.

Opposition to Nitish Kumar going to Rajya Sabha

AJSU and JDU MLA Saryu Rai has protested against Nitish Kumar’s decision to go to Rajya Sabha. He alleged that this is a trick and gimmick, which should be stopped. President Draupadi Murmu changed the posts of Governors and Lieutenant Governors in several states, including announcing a new Governor for Bihar. The notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain will take charge as the new Governor of Bihar from March 6, 2026.

Background of Syed Ata Hasnain

Syed Ata Hasnain is a distinguished officer of the Indian Army who has served for almost 40 years. He has previously been the commander of Chinar Corps (15 Corps) in Kashmir and has played an important role in counter-insurgency operations. After retirement, he actively contributed to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and has also made his mark as a writer, commentator and strategic expert.

Changes in union territories also

On the other hand, many important transfers have also taken place in the Union Territories. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has been appointed as the LG of Ladakh. In his place, former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been made the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. At the same time, former Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta has been appointed as the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh.

Other changes of governors

In this reshuffle, Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi has been made the new Governor of West Bengal, while Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been sent to Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Governor CV Anand Bose resigned ahead of the Bengal elections, and Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta has also resigned from his post.

New governors in Himachal Pradesh and Telangana

In this sequence, Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has been given the responsibility of Telangana. Outgoing Governor of Telangana Jishnu Dev Verma has been made the Governor of an important state like Maharashtra. Nand Kishore Yadav has also been appointed as the new Governor for the north-eastern state of Nagaland.
