Amid rising concerns triggered by global tensions and misinformation, the Centre has reassured citizens that petrol, diesel, and LPG are available in sufficient quantities across the country. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain uninterrupted supply.
The government also urged people to avoid panic buying and unnecessary LPG bookingsstating that such actions can disrupt otherwise stable supply chains.
Surge in Demand Driven by Panic, Not Shortage
Officials clarified that recent pressure on fuel availability in some regions is largely due to panic-driven demand spikesnot actual shortages.
Data shared by the ministry shows that online LPG bookings have surged to nearly 95%while delivery systems continue to operate at scale.
In fact, over 51 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered in a single dayhighlighting the robustness of India’s distribution network even under stress.
Government Steps to Maintain Supply Stability
To ensure seamless availability, the government has implemented several proactive measures:
- All refineries are operating at high capacity levels
- Adequate crude oil inventories have been secured
- Continuous monitoring of logistics, ports, and shipping routes
- Strengthening last-mile LPG delivery systems
Additionally, authorities confirmed that small 5-kg LPG cylinders are widely available and can be purchased with basic ID proof, making access easier for consumers.
Push for Alternative Energy Options
Alongside ensuring fuel supply, the government is encouraging citizens to explore alternative energy solutions such as:
- Piped Natural Gas (PNG)
- Induction cooktops
- Electric cooking appliances
Recent data indicates that over 3.5 lakh PNG connections have been activated and more than 3.8 lakh new users have registered, signaling a gradual shift toward diversified energy sources.

The assurance comes amid geopolitical developments affecting global energy markets. Despite this, India has maintained stable supply chains through diversified imports and strong domestic production.
