Govt Clarifies LPG Aadhaar eKYC Authentication Rules

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified today that biometric Aadhaar authentication for LPG connections applies only to consumers who have not yet completed the process.

The ministry emphasised that customers who have already finished authentication do not need to repeat it.

Officials explained that some news reports and social media posts created confusion by suggesting all LPG users must undergo biometric Aadhaar authentication. The ministry stressed that this is not a new directive but part of ongoing efforts to encourage more consumers to complete eKYC.

For beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the ministry said authentication is required only once every financial year, specifically for receiving targeted DBT subsidies after the seventh refill. Customers must complete eKYC during the eighth and ninth refill to continue receiving subsidies.

The ministry assured consumers that the LPG supply will not be disrupted due to the authentication process. Refills will continue without interruption, regardless of eKYC status. Officials highlighted that the process is simple, free of cost, and can be completed from home without visiting distributors.

According to the government, Aadhaar-based eKYC ensures transparency in LPG distribution, eliminates ghost beneficiaries, prevents diversion of cylinders, and secures subsidy eligibility. The clarification aims to reassure households and counter misinformation circulating online.

Meanwhile, the LPG tanker Nanda Devi, carrying 45,000 metric tonnes of gas, arrived at Vadinar port in Gujarat after crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel was initially scheduled for Kandla port but diverted to Vadinar.
