News India Live, Digital Desk: Home Minister Amit Shah, while interacting with the ‘Bharat Taxi’ app and thousands of drivers associated with it, underlined their contribution to the country’s tourism and economy. He said that when a foreign or domestic tourist steps into a new city, the taxi driver is the first person he meets. Key Highlights: Title of ‘Ambassador’ Shah said, “A taxi driver creates the image of the city and the country. The way you treat the passengers is a reflection of the culture of our country (Atithi Devo Bhava). Therefore, you are our real ambassador.” Security and Technology: Home Minister Drivers encouraged to drive safely and use technology (GPS and panic buttons). He said the government is committed to developing better facilities at taxi stands.Welfare Schemes: Amit Shah announced that the government will extend insurance and health schemes to these workers in the unorganized sector through the e-Shram portal. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: He appealed to the drivers to keep their vehicles clean and also motivate the passengers towards cleanliness.Sidha Samvad: During the program, Shah listened to the personal problems of some drivers and talked about their children’s education and loans. Assured to give instructions to concerned ministries for facilities. ‘Bharat Taxi’ and Government’s StrategyGovernment believes that empowerment of taxi drivers is essential to promote the tourism industry. Especially in view of the major international events to be held in 2026, emphasis is being laid on training drivers (Soft Skills Training).
