Indian Railways has arrested 52 thousand 494 people in the last five years in a massive campaign against criminals for the safety of railway passengers. Also, cases have been filed in court against 50 thousand 432 accused. The railway administration has claimed that the railway security has been strengthened due to strict action taken against the elements involved in stone pelting, theft of railway property and vandalism. According to information given by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in the Lok Sabha, during the period from 2021 to 2025, the Railway Security Force took massive action under the Railway Property (Unauthorized Possession) Act, 1966.

Accidents only 3 times

Railways have also clarified that incidents of tampering with train tracks and causing accidents are very few.
There have been at least three such incidents in the last five years, one each in Waltair, Jhansi and Chennai divisions.

Technology support for security

The use of modern technology has also been increased to prevent crime on railway tracks. Measures such as drone surveillance, solar-powered CCTV cameras, increased patrolling in sensitive areas and coordination with state police and intelligence agencies are being implemented. Also, the citizens living along the railway line are being appealed to give information about any suspicious movement.

Special campaign to prevent stone pelting

A special campaign was launched to prevent stone pelting on railway trains. During this period, 12 thousand 157 cases of stone pelting have been registered and 8 thousand 441 people have been arrested. The Railways has said that it has been able to control such incidents to some extent due to strict action against stone pelters.
