GST meeting today, discussion on tax cut on insurance premium

Mumbai Mumbai : The GST Council is likely to take a decision on reducing tax rates on life and health insurance premiums in its meeting on Saturday, but the decision on rationalizing big-ticket rates, including higher taxes on sin goods, may be postponed.

The GoM in its recommendations on GST rate rationalization had proposed rate changes in 148 items, but sources said there was a need to build consensus on some of the tax changes suggested by the panel. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will chair the meeting in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan on Saturday.
