GT vs MI: Tilak Verma scored his first IPL century, became Mumbai’s troubleshooter against GT
The 30th match of IPL 2026 became completely memorable for Tilak Verma. In this match, Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Gujarat Titans (GT). When the team was in a difficult situation, Tilak Verma came to the crease and batted brilliantly and took control of the team. In this match, Tilak played an amazing innings and also scored the first century of his IPL career, due to which he came into limelight. With this century he also made his new highest score. Earlier his best score was 84 not out.
Mumbai Indians had a very bad start in this match. The team’s top order batsmen quickly returned to the pavilion, due to which the score came under pressure. But Tilak Verma showed a wonderful mix of patience and aggression to take charge of the innings and ultimately took it forward with a bang.

Managed the innings after a bad start
The opening batsmen of Mumbai Indians could not stand against the deadly bowling of Kagiso Rabada. Big names like Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav were out early. In such a situation, Tilak Verma stabilized the innings by staying at the crease and took the responsibility of managing the team. Till the 14th over of the innings, Tilak was struggling after scoring 19 runs in 22 balls. During the strategic time-out, captain Hardik Pandya advised him to play fast. After this Tilak changed his gear and attacked the Gujarat bowlers.
Tilak Verma batted brilliantly and added 96 runs in the last six overs. Targeting bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Ashish Sharma, he hit fours and sixes. His innings included 8 fours and 7 sixes. Also, he equaled Sanath Jayasuriya’s record by completing his century in 45 balls.

Tilak Verma was in poor form earlier but he made a great comeback with this century. His innings proved important for Mumbai Indians, putting the team in a strong position in the match. Thanks to Tilak Verma, Mumbai Indians reached 199 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs.
