Guardiola gives uncertain update on Jack Grealish future after injury setback

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has cast doubt over Jack Grealish’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium, despite the winger’s resurgence during a season-long loan at Everton. Speaking ahead of City’s clash with the Toffees, Guardiola admitted he is unsure if the 30-year-old will return to his squad next season.

Strong Impact at Goodison Park

Grealish joined Everton on loan in August 2025 after falling out of favor in Manchester. Before a season-ending injury, he became a focal point for David Moyes, contributing two goals and six assists in 20 Premier League appearances surpassing his total goal contributions from his previous two seasons at City combined.

“I know the impact at Everton was really good,” Guardiola noted. “He needs to play game, game, game, and at Everton, he had that”

Injury Setback and Transfer Speculation

A stress fracture in his foot sustained in January has sidelined Grealish for the remainder of the 2025–26 campaign. While the player has expressed a desire to stay on Merseyside, claiming Everton “feels like home,” a permanent move remains complicated by his reported £300,000-per-week salary and City’s £50 million valuation.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the “chapter is completely closed” for Grealish at Manchester City. With his contract expiring in 2027, the upcoming summer window will be a turning point for the Treble-winner’s career as he focuses on rehabilitation and a potential permanent exit.
