Gujarat Accident: Horrific road accident in Surendranagar, speeding truck crushed seven people, relief work continues

Surendranagar: Seven people were killed and some others were injured after they were hit by a speeding truck in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district late Sunday night. Lakhtar Police Inspector Yogesh Patel said that the incident took place around 1.30 am on the Lakhtar-Viramgam highway when a group of pilgrims were going on foot from Rajkot to visit the Bahucharaji temple.

A speeding truck crushed the devotees on the outskirts of Bhaskarpara village in Lakhtar taluka of the district, he said. He said six pilgrims and a dumper driver standing on the roadside died. The dead include four women.

The official said that the number of injured is not yet clear. He said, “The accident occurred when the pilgrims were on foot. They had set out to offer prayers at a temple in Bahucharaji when a truck coming at a high speed from behind hit them.” The officer said that the truck driver fled from the spot and efforts are on to nab him.
