A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Gujarat has sentenced six Pakistani nationals to eight years of rigorous imprisonment. The court announced this verdict on Monday. According to reports, the court had sentenced these Pakistani nationals in connection with the seizure of 330 kilograms of “brown heroin” from them in May 2019. A fine of Rs 25,000 was also imposed on each accused. Meanwhile, an Indian national was acquitted in this case.
This entire incident is from May 2019. During an operation conducted in the sea near the Jakhau coast in Gujarat’s Kutch district, 330 kilograms of “brown heroin” were seized. When an Indian Coast Guard ship surrounded a Pakistani boat, the people on board it threw the drug packets into the sea. Now six Pakistani nationals have been sentenced to eight years in prison in this case.
NIA Special Court Judge Hemang Rawal also sentenced the Pakistani nationals to five years in prison under the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950. However, both these sentences will run concurrently. Apart from this, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of the convicts under the Foreigners Act. Let us tell you that the Gujarat government is continuously intensifying its action against drugs or narcotics. Recently, the police destroyed drugs worth Rs 2153 crore in the state’s Bharuch district. During this, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi was also present at the spot.
