IPL 2026 final: Gujarat Titans players evacuate bus after short-circuit scare

However, as they say, sometimes stars dont align, and everything just seems to go wrong. This is exactly what happned with Gujarat Titans (GT) players and support staff, who had a narrow escape after their team bus suffered a short circuit while returning to the hotel following the summit clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

According to reports, the electrical fault caused smoke to fill the vehicle and players as well as staff members to evacuate immediately. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The squad was left stranded on the roadside for nearly an hour before a replacement bus arrived and transported them safely to the hotel.

The incident capped a disappointing night for Gujarat Titans, who lost the IPL 2026 final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by five wickets.

Following the defeat, GT Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, was asked whether fatigue played a role in the team’s performance.

“I don’t want to take away from the fact that RCB have won by simply stating that we’ve had this number of games in these short days and we’re fatigued. That’s not what we’re about,” Solanki said at the post-match press conference.

“Admittedly, 155/8 was a below-par total, but they showed great fight to try and defend it. We might assess what we could have done differently, but you also have to accept that the opposition played very well,” he added.

Kohli’s Match-Winning Knock and DRS Drama

If off-field thier bus caught fire, Virat Kohli and Shubhman Gill had a heated controversy on the field over. How can Virat Kohli’s innings be without controversy? It so happened that batting on 63, he got angry at GT bowlers as Virat claimed he wasn’t out. While the on-field decision initially went against him, Kohli signalled for a review.

Replays showed that Gill’s catch was not clean, as the ball appeared to make contact with the ground while he attempted to complete the catch. After reviewing multiple angles, the third umpire overturned the decision and ruled Kohli not out.

As the replays played on the giant screen, Virat Kohli appeared to disagree with Gill’s claim that the catch had been taken cleanly. Moments later, when the “NOT OUT” verdict flashed on the screen, Kohli celebrated passionately before going on to guide RCB to victory.
