Gullak Season 5 Review: Mishra family returns with new faces, new twist, know whether watching is wise or a waste of time
Gullak Season 5 Review: ‘Annu Bhaiya’ and the color of the house have changed, but is the sound of our own Mishra family still the same?
We all have a cupboard or a corner in our homes, where things that are years old are kept – dusty, but very valuable. SonyLIV’s series ‘Gullak’ is also exactly the same in the world of OTT. Whenever the story of this middle-class family comes on screen, it feels as if someone has placed a mirror of our own home in front of us.
Now Santosh Mishra, Shanti Mishra, Annu and Aman have returned with their fifth season (Gullak Season 5). This time there is new paint on the walls of the house, new Wi-Fi and some new lessons in life. But this time too does the tinkling of coins in the piggy bank directly touch the heart? Let us know its review in a completely desi and true style.
What is cooking at Mishra residence this time? (The Story)
The story continues from where it left off, but this time the children have grown up a bit. Elder son Annu is now trying to balance his life between the harsh reality of his job, office politics and his dentist friend Preeti. The younger son Aman is now in college and in his quest to earn money through shortcuts, he puts the whole family in big trouble.
Santosh Mishra and Shanti Mishra are managing their world as usual between their small squabbles, LPG cylinder prices and home loan installments. Along with this, the new YouTube channel of ‘Bittu Ki Mummy’ and the new gleaming car of ‘Pinky Mama’ add a touch of comedy to the story.
Those things that will win your heart (The Best Parts)
1. Same old middle-class comfort
The biggest strength of Gullak is its simple style. Identifying whether the cheese is real or fake, mom’s scolding when clothes are not washed, and dad’s upset when his scooter breaks down – all these do not seem like movie scenes, these are the moments that every middle class family lives every day.
2. The magic of Jamil Khan and Gitanjali Kulkarni
Jamil Khan in the role of Santosh Mishra and Geetanjali Kulkarni as Shanti Mishra have once again done wonders. Seeing these two on screen, it feels as if we are seeing our own parents. There is no pretense in his acting, there is only pure emotion.
3. Swag of ‘Bittu Ki Mummy’
In this season, the neighbor i.e. Bittu’s mother (Sunita Rajwar) has robbed the party. His making reels, running Mahila Mandal and sticking his nose in everything will make you laugh with your stomach.
Those things that may irritate a little (The Flaws)
1. It will take some time to adopt the new ‘Annu Bhaiya’
The biggest shock of this season is the changed face of Annu Bhaiya. Vaibhav Raj Gupta, who has made this character deep in his heart for the last four seasons, is not a part of the show this time. Anant V Joshi has replaced him.
To be honest, Anant has done a great acting job, he has shown the pain of a responsible elder brother very well. But as an audience, it feels a bit strange in the beginning to see the face we have loved for four years being replaced by someone else.
2. Tension and burden of social messages
Last seasons were short and cheeky. This time the makers have kept 7 episodes instead of 5. At some places it feels as if the story has been deliberately prolonged and an attempt has been made to forcefully convey some big social message (like the evils of society or women’s rights). Because of this, the old, light-hearted style of Gullak starts looking a little heavy.
Conclusion:-
‘Gullak Season 5’ is not perfect, it has some shortcomings and the heart takes some time to accept the new face. But despite all this, this series is like a breath of cool air amidst the abuses and gory content found today.
This is a show which even today you can watch without any hesitation sitting with your entire family, parents and children. It will make you laugh, take you down memory lane and even make your eyes a little moist by the end of the last episode. Do watch it to spend a few moments of relaxation on the weekend!
