One cop killed in gunfight with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua

Jammu: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Billawar area of Kathua, just a few hours after violence in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir.  One police officer lost his life in the gunfight.

Acting on special intelligence about the presence of terrorists, security forces initiated a joint search operation in Billawar village. It is believed that members of the Jaish-e-Mohammed group are trapped in the area.

Weapons seized during Kulgam encounter

The situation escalated when both sides exchanged gunfire. Security forces have cordoned off the area to conduct thorough searches.

This operation comes after a deadly encounter in Kulgam, where two terrorists were killed and five security personnel, including a Jammu and Kashmir Police officer, were injured. During that encounter, security forces recovered several weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, five magazines and pistols.

Security tightened

Officials said that the latest operations were launched based on intelligence reports regarding the terrorists’ presence in Adigam village. The coordinated effort involved the army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to secure the area. Authorities are maintaining a high level of alert and readiness to respond to any threats.

In light of the ongoing situation in Kog (Mandali) village in Kathua, security measures have been heightened. Barricades have been set up at various locations to check vehicles, ensuring the safety of the community and preventing further violence.
