Gurugram: 19-year-old woman allegedly confined and tortured by live-in partner, admitted to AIIMS Delhi

New Delhi: A 19-year-old biotechnology university student is battling serious injuries after she was allegedly confined and assaulted by her live-in partner in Gurugram’s Badshahpur area. The incident came to light after her mother alerted the police, claiming her daughter was being held against her will at the paying guest accommodation where the couple had been staying.

Police rushed to the Great PG, which is a rental accommodation in Sector 69, Gurugram and found the young woman injured. She was first taken to a government hospital in Gurugram. Doctors later referred her to AIIMS Delhi as her condition was critical. Hospital officials confirmed that she had multiple injuries, including burn wounds.

The accused is identified as Shivam, who is also a 19-year-old and was later arrested from Delhi, soon after the complaint was registered. Police said the two had known each other since September last year and had been living together in the same room.

Relationship turned violent

According to investigators, both families were aware of the relationship and had even discussed the possibility of marriage. However, tensions reportedly developed between the couple. The woman told police that her partner would often question her about her activities, leading to frequent arguments.

Officials said one such argument escalated late at night and turned violent. The survivor has alleged that she was assaulted and raped during the altercation. Authorities are still trying to determine how long she may have been confined before her mother contacted the police.

Case registered; investigation ongoing

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Badshahpur police station based on the woman’s complaint and medical findings. Senior officers said additional charges were added after reviewing the medical report.

Police said the accused is in custody and further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the assault. The survivor remains under treatment in Delhi.
