Assam’s ‘firebrand’ CM’s problems may increase, Government of India in trouble with Sarma in hate speech case
Assam CM Hate Speech Case: The troubles of Assam CM Himanta Sarma, who is in the news for his statements every day, seem to be increasing, in fact, the Gauhati High Court has issued a notice on Thursday. In the petition filed, a demand was raised to stop Assam CM Sarma from giving hate speech against the minority community of the state.
Assam Police did not take action?
According to the report of Live Law, it has been said in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that despite the public video of CM Sarma’s alleged hate speech, Assam Police has not registered an FIR on its own. Besides, it has also been said in the petition that due to lack of action against the Chief Minister, an atmosphere of fear is created in the state.
Who filed the petition?
This petition was filed by Dr. Hiren Gohain and two others, in which instructions have been sought to stop Himanta Biswa Sarma from giving hate speech and inciting citizens to take law into their hands. In this case, the Supreme Court had asked the petitioners demanding action against Sarma for alleged hate speech to approach the High Court.

To whom was the notice issued?
After hearing the case, the bench of Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Arun Dev Chaudhary of Gauhati High Court said that notice should be issued to the Government of India, the State of Assam, Assam Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Also issued notice on the petition for interim relief.
What did Abhishek Manu Singhvi say?
Singhvi said that the CM has targeted a particular community in the state, he further said that I believe that if Gandhiji had heard the CM’s statement, he would have turned over in his grave. We cannot forget that he has taken the oath of office, I am concluding by saying that FIR should be registered, such speeches should stop and strict action should be taken against the Chief Minister. Singhvi said that he was called ‘Miya Muslim’ while making derogatory remarks against the minority community.
