Major accident in Guyana, boat carrying 116 people capsized, screams were heard, scary pictures surfaced

Guyana Ferry Capsizes: A heart-wrenching news has come out from the South American country Guyana, it has become a major maritime accident. A ferry carrying 116 passengers and crew capsized and sank. Relief and rescue operations were started immediately after the accident. So far, 53 people have been rescued safely, while the search for many others is still going on.

According to local officials, the ferry named MV Barima was heading from the capital Georgetown to Port Kaituma. On the way near Iron Punt, late in the night the ferry suddenly lost its balance and overturned in the sea. A distress call was sent immediately after the accident, after which the administration and rescue agencies reached the spot. The administration is continuously carrying out rescue operations and trying to locate the missing people.

Coast Guard and private boats saved passengers

Guyana’s Public Works Minister Juan Edghill said that as soon as information about the accident was received, government agencies as well as nearby private boats were deployed for relief work. Many people were rescued safely from the sea with the help of coast guard and private boats. Medical teams were also sent to the spot to provide immediate treatment to the rescued passengers.

According to the information, MV Barima was built in the year 1939 and its length was approximately 40 meters. Officials say the ferry had 250 life jackets, two lifeboats and six inflatable life rafts for safety. Despite this, investigation has been started into how the accident happened.

The Prime Minister himself is monitoring

Guyana’s Prime Minister Mark Phillips himself is monitoring this entire matter. He has instructed the concerned agencies to conduct rapid relief and rescue operations. The port the ferry was headed for, Kaituma, is located in the Essequibo region, which has long been a point of dispute between Guyana and Venezuela. At present, the entire focus of the administration is on finding the missing people as soon as possible and finding out the cause of the accident.
