‘Had fun for 4 years, now remembered my sisters and daughters…’, why are people angry at Sanjay Nishad?

Regional parties in Uttar Pradesh have now started preparations for the assembly elections to be held next year. Sanjay Nishad, Fisheries Minister in the UP government and head of the Nishad Party, has also sounded the election bugle. He is now crying in election rallies, demanding Scheduled Caste status for Nishads. He cried so much in an election rally that people started scolding him. People say that if you have to cry even after being in the government for 4 years, then what kind of caste politics are you doing.

Sanjay Nishad is now demanding Scheduled Caste (SC) status for 21 sub-castes living on the banks of rivers. They say that these castes have been kept in Other Backward Class (OBC) status, whereas they should be given Scheduled Caste status. Sanjay Nishad was repeatedly emphasizing that reservation is not a favor but a right. Sanjay Nishad has also raised the demand for restoration of traditional rights on fishing and sand mining ghats. He also became emotional during this time.

Sanjay Nishad’s tears welled up in the public meeting

The honor of our sisters and daughters is being robbed. The votes of our people are being snatched away. When the honor of your daughters is robbed, this opposition stands with the accused. When I raise my voice in the House, bulldozers are used against the accused. Your daughter gets justice. The upper caste people are not snatching your share. SP and BSP are doing this. You pressed the elephant button and your livelihood was taken away.

Why is Sanjay Nishad being criticized?

BJP is in power at the Center for 12 years and in UP for 9 years. Dr. Sanjay Nishad ji has been a part of the BJP government for almost a year. If till date Dr. Sanjay Nishad has not been able to give Nishad Kashyap Mallah i.e. Fisherman community its due rights and respect. Now, if they are crying from the stage, they are acting because elections are on the horizon and they will remain puppets of BJP in future also and will never give their share to the Fisherman community.

People are criticizing Sanjay Nishad. People say that you are a powerful minister in the UP government, yet you are doing the drama of crying and whining. After 4 years, I remember demanding rights for the sub-castes of Mallahs and Nishads. Some people have also accused him of neglecting the Nishads.

Nishad community has gathered here for their rights. The opposition misleads the public, this is the voice of unity. All our castes are united, they are angry that those who have eaten our share should be thrown out of the society. Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party have been eating their share for 30 years and Congress is feeding them, hence they will have to be thrown out of power.

Samajwadi Party leader Rajendra Chaudhary said, ‘You cannot mislead the Nishad community. While being a minister, you have not been able to fulfill the demands of the people of this community.

Another Samajwadi Party leader, Rajendra Choudhary, said, ‘Elderly cabinet minister Sanjay Nishad cried bitterly on the stage in Gorakhpur. The honor of our sisters and daughters is being robbed. The votes of our people are being snatched away. Sanjay Nishad is an elderly cabinet minister from the extremely backward PDA category of the Thakur Yogi government. His cabinet minister Nishad ji has raised a hue and cry against the Yogi government.

What does Sanjay Nishad want?

Sanjay Nishad is demanding reservation for 21 sub-castes. He has started his election mission for the assembly elections to be held in the year 2027. Sanjay Nishad, now Nishad is emphasizing on politics. He has promised in Digvijaynath Park that if his demands are not met, he will resign. Sanjay Nishad has also demanded restoration of land rights to the landless and non-notified castes.

How strong is Nishad Party?

Nishad Party is in NDA alliance with BJP. The party had won 5 seats in the 2022 elections, but the promises were not fulfilled. He has been demanding Scheduled Caste status for Nishads for a long time. Now the party is busy uniting the river bank community.

What is Sanjay Nishad going to do now?

Sanjay Nishad has announced to hold rallies in Prayagraj, Varanasi and Meerut. He claimed that the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Minister have shown seriousness regarding SC status. He is saying in his public meetings that Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have cheated the people.

How is Sanjay Nishad saving his politics?

Sanjay Nishad has been an associate of Samajwadi Party. Now he is with Yogi Adityanath government. Nishad leaders are in a strong position in the Samajwadi Party. Now this party is also facing challenge from SP itself. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party candidates had defeated Nishad candidates at some places. Now BJP has also increased its efforts to unite the communities living on the river banks. Nishad Party seems uneasy with its alliance partners.
