Haiti: 50 suspected gang members killed in attack on Haiti's Arkahi, boat hits a rock

Haiti : At least 50 suspected gang members have been killed in an attack on Haiti's western coastal city of Arkahei. At least a dozen people drowned on Wednesday when a boat carrying ammunition for gangs attacking the city was reported to have drowned, Wilner René, an official with Haiti's civil protection agency, told local Radio Caribes. However, their boat hit a rock and capsized.

The attack on Arkahey, located about 50 kilometers northwest of the capital Port-au-Prince, began on October 21. The armed attackers initially hid in nearby areas before being discovered by police, René said, adding that the attack was ongoing and police needed immediate reinforcements. The attack is part of a broader wave of violence that has swept Haiti in recent years, driven by a deepening political and social crisis.
