Jeevan and Vijay script another comeback to win the Hangzhou Open 2024

Indian tennis doubles duo Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth won the ATP 250 Hangzhou Open 2024, defeating German duo Constantine Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens in the finals, at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Center, on Tuesday.

The Indian duo defeated the Germans 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-7 in the final, staging another comeback after losing the first set.

This is their first title together as a pair.

After losing the first set 4-6, Jeevan and Vijay came back strongly in the second set, and despite the set being contested evenly, the Indian duo prevailed in the tie-breaker, winning 7-5 and taking the set 7-6.

They then completed the comeback winning the final set 10-7 to register what will surely be a famous victory in their careers.

This is Vijay Sundar Prashanth’s first ATP title, whereas, for Jeevan, it is his first after seven years.

He had won the Chennai Open in 2017, partnering Rohan Bopanna.

In the semi-finals too, the Indian pairing lost the first set 0-6 to third-seeded America’s Robert Galloway and Uruguay’s Ariel Behar, and then won the subsequent two sets to advance to the final.

In the quarters, they had beaten the British duo of Llyod Glasspool and Julian Cash, winning 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (8-6), 10-8.

In what is the first edition of the Hangzhou Open, which has replaced the Zhuhai Championships from the ATP World Tour, the Indians have scripted a famous title-winning run.
