The 55-year-old said she began buying gold when prices were around VND12 million dong per language and has held onto it ever since, viewing it as a way to preserve value amid currency depreciation. A tael, which equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces, is now priced around 54% higher.
After queuing for about two hours to complete her transaction, she returned to work later in the morning.
“My family also maintains the tradition of buying gold on this day every year. When my children are busy, they ask me to buy it on their behalf.”
