Hanoi’s air quality has gone down over the past two days, with some areas seeing air quality index (AQI) going up to 380, or hazardous level.
There was light fog at the capital on Monday morning, and as the sun rose, the dew started to clear up. Certain locations in Hai Ba Trung and Long Bien districts recorded AQI levels at over 200, up to 252, which are deemed “very unhealthy,” according to the Pollution Control Department.
Among the air quality survey stations of the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the stations at Minh Khai Ward in Bac Tu Liem District recorded the worst air pollution, with AQI levels going over 380 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, indicating “hazardous” air quality.
All other air quality stations in the capital, even the ones in suburban areas, recorded poor air quality, with AQI levels going beyond 160. A statistics system compiling data from over 30,000 air quality stations around the world ranked Hanoi to be the 4th-most polluted city in the world with an AQI at 276.
Northern Vietnam will be impacted by a weakening mass of cold air this week, with cloudy and foggy morning anticipated for Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Light drizzles are expected in the morning and at night from Thursday to Saturday. Air pollution is expected to be severe as weather conditions do not allow the dissipation of particles in the air.
