Happy New Year in New Zealand: New Year 2026 begins in Auckland city with fireworks

Wellington. Aucklanders welcomed 2026 by firing fireworks from New Zealand’s tallest building, the Sky Tower, becoming the first major city to welcome the New Year in a rain-hit celebration. South Pacific countries were the first to bid farewell to 2025. In Auckland, which has a population of seventeen lakhs, at 12 o’clock in the night, people welcomed the New Year with tremendous fireworks.

In this five-minute display, tremendous fireworks were fired from different floors of the 240 meter high sky tower. Some events in New Zealand’s North Island were canceled on Wednesday due to forecast rain. Australia’s east coast welcomed 2026, two hours after New Zealand. In Sydney, the country’s largest city, celebrations reflected the impact of Australia’s worst mass shooting in nearly 30 years.

Two gunmen targeted Hanukkah celebrations at Bondi Beach on December 14, killing 15 and wounding 40. On Wednesday, a large number of people gathered on the city’s coastal area to watch the fireworks organized on the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Strict security arrangements were made on this occasion.

Indonesia, one of Australia’s closest neighbours, limited New Year’s Eve celebrations in a show of solidarity with communities devastated by devastating floods and landslides that hit parts of Sumatra island a month ago. In many parts of Asia, the New Year is welcomed following age-old traditions.
