HAPPY NEW YEAR: Welcome 2026 amid much fanfare, celebrations across the country

New Delhi, January 1. Happy New Year! Along with bidding farewell to the year 2025 with sweet and sour memories, 2026 is being welcomed with much fanfare in most of the countries around the world including India. Be it Delhi or Mumbai, Patna or Lucknow, people in different cities across the country are celebrating the New Year in their own style. At 12 midnight on Wednesday, people came out of their homes and welcomed 2026 by bursting fireworks. On this occasion, they hugged and congratulated each other and offered sweets.

It is noteworthy that Auckland city of New Zealand first welcomed 2026 by firing fireworks from its tallest building Sky Tower. At that time it was 5.30 in the evening in India, when in Auckland, with a population of 17 lakh, people welcomed the New Year with spectacular fireworks at 12 in the night. In this five-minute display, powerful fireworks were fired from different floors of the 240 meter high Sky Tower. Actually, the countries of the South Pacific were the first to say goodbye to 2025.

President Murmu extended New Year wishes

President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday greeted the countrymen on the eve of New Year 2026 and called upon everyone to further strengthen their commitment towards national development, social harmony and environmental protection. In his message he said that the New Year is a symbol of new energy and positive change.

The President further said that this is also an opportunity for self-reflection and new resolutions. On this occasion, let us further strengthen our commitment towards the country’s development, social harmony and environmental protection. Murmu further said, ‘I wish that 2026 brings peace, happiness and prosperity in our lives and provides new energy to build a stronger and more prosperous India.’ He extended warm New Year wishes to all Indians living in the country and abroad.

Security tightened in Kashmir

With the arrival of the New Year, a huge crowd of tourists has gathered in the hill resorts of Kashmir, security arrangements have been further strengthened in the valley. Police and other security agencies have made extraordinary security arrangements, especially in Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam. Officials said additional forces have been deployed at major tourist destinations to ensure that New Year celebrations remain peaceful and safe. These include Park, Boulevard Road of Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Special check points have been set up at major entry and exit points for thorough checking of vehicles and passengers. Along with this, checking, patrolling and monitoring have been increased significantly.

Police deployed at every nook and corner in Mumbai

In the Maya city of Mumbai, the police had deployed more than 17,000 soldiers to make the New Year celebrations safe. Drone surveillance and deployment of plainclothes police personnel were deployed at major tourist spots like Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, and Juhu-Versova Beach to prevent any untoward incident.

3000 soldiers took command in Delhi

Unprecedented police arrangements were made for security on the occasion of New Year in the national capital Delhi. It was told that about 3000 policemen were deployed across the city, who are ensuring public safety in various sensitive areas. Police have identified more than 60 ‘party zones’, including popular markets, malls and nightlife centers in the capital, where especially intensive checking has been arranged.
