Hardik Pandya to miss the first IPL 2025 match due to ban
Hardik Pandya will lead Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. MI confirmed that Hardik will continue as their skipper. However, he is going to miss the first match of the 18th season as the all-rounder is banned. Suryakumar Yadav, who is the T20I captain of India National Cricket Team, is likely to replace him for one contest.
Mumbai Indians were found guilty of slow-over rate offence for three times in the previous season. It was the last league match of MI. Under the rules, a skipper is fined INR 12 lakh for the first offence. The second offence carries a fine of INR 24 lakh for the leader. Even other players are also fined for the slow-over rate issue. If the offence is repeated for the third time, the fine increases to INR 30 lakh and the skipper is banned for one match.
MI’s third offence came against Lucknow Super Giants in their last match of the season. Hardik will have to serve the one-match ban before returning to play for the five-time champions.
Apart from Hardik (INR 16.35 crore), Mumbai retained Jasprit Bumrah (INR 18 crore), Rohit Sharma (INR 16.30 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (INR 16.35 crore) and Tilak Varma (INR 8 crore).
