Police have arrested the youth on charges of money laundering. Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council General Secretary Manindra Kumar Nath has confirmed the arrest of Hari Das.
Manindra Kumar Nath told the media that he had spoken to the Superintendent of Police of Gaibandha district on phone. The police officer told them that a youth named Hari Das had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Uttara area of Dhaka.
Nath said that according to the Superintendent of Police, Hari Das has been arrested on charges of money laundering. Condemning this action, he said that instead of arresting the youth, action should have been taken against the radicals.
Hari Das was associated with the construction of Lord Ram’s idol.
Hari Das Taroni was starting the construction of an 81 feet tall statue of Lord Rama in Gaibandha district of northern Bangladesh. The matter came to light when the Hindu community had staged a massive protest following the news of desecration of Lord Ram’s image during an Islamic demonstration in Gaibandha district last month.
