Important question, now what role will Harivansh play in Rajya Sabha?
According to the Constitution and rules of Rajya Sabha, a nominated MP can also become the Deputy Chairman. Under Article 89, the Rajya Sabha elects the Deputy Chairman from among its members. There is no condition that the member must be elected. That means, both nominated and elected members can be elected to this post. Provided that he is a Rajya Sabha member.
The Deputy Chairman is elected by Rajya Sabha MPs. For this a proposal is brought, on which voting takes place. The government and the opposition decide the name by consensus. Election is done by simple majority. The special thing is that nominated members can also vote and become candidates. Harivansh has been the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha (2018–2024). Now he has been made a nominated member by the President. If consensus is reached, he can become the Deputy Chairman again.
