Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur won the silver medal in the women’s 69kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, delivering a career-best performance and dedicating her achievement to her family.
Speaking after the event, Harjinder said, “I am very happy to win the silver medal for India. I feel really proud. I am very happy with my performance. I will dedicate my medal to my family. I am thankful to the Indian Federation and the Indian Government that they helped us reach here.”
The 28-year-old from Nabha, Punjab, recorded a personal-best total of 227kg, lifting 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk. Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau won the gold with a total of 235kg, comprising 108kg in the snatch and 127kg in the clean and jerk.
Harjinder set a new Commonwealth Games record twice during the snatch competition. She opened with a successful 96kg lift, then improved the Games mark with 99kg, and finally reached 101kg on her third attempt.
She continued her strong performance in the clean and jerk, beginning with 120kg to briefly take the lead and pressure Simoneau, before completing a 126kg lift to finish with her personal-best total of 227kg and secure the silver medal.
Although the Canadian athlete reclaimed the lead with a decisive final lift, Harjinder’s record-breaking effort highlighted her consistency on the international stage and marked progress from the bronze medal she achieved at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Harjinder Kaur’s success adds to India’s medal tally at the Glasgow Games, which now stands at 12 medals: two gold, seven silver, and three bronze.
