Harshit Rana opens up about failure and the support of his father

Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana spoke about building resilience after enduring tough phases early in his journey. Since breaking into the national setup last year, the quick has drawn mixed reactions following inconsistent spells. Rana, backed by renowned head coach Gautam Gambhir, has quickly become a dependable force in limited-overs cricket. With impressive figures, he has taken 26 wickets in 14 ODIs and seven in six T20Is, showcasing his potential and effectiveness in the shorter formats of the game.

Harshit Rana has displayed growing mental toughness in the face of online criticism, emerging stronger with each challenge. The fast bowler was part of India’s victorious campaigns in last year’s Champions Trophy and Asia Cup. In an interaction with MensXP, Rana reflected on a difficult early phase, admitting that repeated setbacks often left him overwhelmed, seeking comfort from his father.

“I’ve learned how to deal with setbacks now. There was a long phase when nothing went my way. I would attend trials, miss out on selection, and return home in tears to my father. That period taught me resilience. Whatever comes my way now, I feel prepared for it. I had almost quit, but my dad never stopped encouraging me,” Harshit said.

Harshit Rana also spoke about sharing the dressing room with senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The fast bowler explained that both stalwarts push him hard during net sessions, creating high-intensity spells that help sharpen his skills and raise his bowling ceiling.

“Whenever Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bat in the nets, it becomes competitive. They constantly challenge me, and that pushes me to operate at my highest level,” Harshit said.

Harshit Rana continued to strengthen his case during the New Zealand assignment, delivering impressive performances in the first and third ODIs. The seamer has subsequently been named in the country’s roster for the T20 World Cup beginning in February.
